1.4.2011 - "Little John's Magazine Debut!" Okay, so it's really a teeny tiny picture of him but if you look through the current issue of Hawaii Skin Diver magazine, you'll see him. =) And if you look extra hard, you'll find another tiny photo of him somewhere else in the magazine!

Project 365? Ready, set, go!

I've been thinking and talking about doing a 365 project for the looooongest time. What is it? It's a commitment to take and post/blog a picture every single day for an entire year. It's a ridiculously crazy time to start now since we JUST got back from a two week vacation to Florida and South Carolina and have tons of One Breath Photo work to catch up on. We also have an almost 9-month old little boy who is starting to show signs of being independently mobile... But hey, life wouldn't be fun without a bit of craziness, now would it? So, here I go! Project 365 has officially begun!

Since we were traveling, I wasn't able to post my 1.1 and 1.2 pictures so here I am playing catchup already on day 4. Oh, we're off to a lovely start, aren't we?

1.1.2011 - "Acorns" Did you know that those acorn tops fall off pretty easily? Well, I had no clue until I picked one up, wanting to use it for my picture. I think it was the first time I actually touched an acorn. We don't have them in Hawaii and the only time I get to see them is when we go back to South Carolina for the winter holiday. =)

1.2.2011 - "First Snowfall" Okay, so this picture wasn't technically taken on the 2nd but we were traveling for most of the day so I'm allowed to cheat and post a picture from another day. Here's our little boy, fascinated and enjoying his first snowfall ever.

1.3.2011 - "Swoon-worthy" We came home to an abundance of mail and this little treasure was in it. A letterpressed holiday greeting card from a fabulous designer friend, Kristen of Cry Baby Ink. =) I know I'm being a tease by only showing a tiny portion of the ornament-shaped card, but trust me, it was fabulous!

Gah, he used to be sooooo tiny! Can't believe he's already 4.5 months old!

And he's here!!!

Our little bundle of joy, John IV. =) Born on April 18, 2010 at 3:42 in the morning. He weighed in at 6 lbs. 3.2 oz. and measured 19 inches long.

It's funny because both John and I are huge procrastinators but this little boy doesn't seem to share that trait with us. He was born 8 days early AND only needed 6 hours of active labor to join the outside world.

The sleep deprivation hasn't been as bad as I feared but some nights are tougher than others. John IV got his first real bath this morning at 4:30 a.m. Why? Because what should have been a quick and easy diaper change went horribly horribly wrong. =P Ah, the joys of being a brand new parent......

Oh boy....

Yikes, it's been a while since my last post. Why the looooong long absence?

The title of this entry pretty much sums it up.

Yes, I know those adorable little monkey shoes don't come in my size. But they do for our soon-to-be-born little boy. =)

Made In Hawaii this weekend!

John and I have been busily preparing for our biggest craft fair of the year, the Made In Hawaii Festival. It starts on Friday at the Blaisdell Center. =) Here's a sneak peek at one of our new products we'll be debuting at the fair. Maybe we'll see you there!

Stupid big fat SUV vs. our Prius

Thanks a lot, driver of a stupid big fat white SUV with broken side mirror that's being held together with packing tape. While parking your monstrosity of a vehicle, you rammed our car from behind. I guess your gas guzzler is so large that it must have cushioned the impact because you didn't even leave a note acknowledging the damage you caused to our bumper. Oh, and it was nice and thoughtful of you to reverse a full 2 inches to give us room to pull out.

Our Prius seems to be a magnet for abuse because it's also been already keyed, scratched, and even had one of its mirrors knocked off. =( And it's not even 2 years old.

Pimping out a friend!

I have an awesomely talented friend, Kristen, who I've known since high school. She loves birds and cookies & cream ice cream, has the same shoe size as me, shares birthdays with Barack Obama and my sister-in-law, and is the only person I know who follows dinner with 'second dinner' before dessert. (And she's skinny, that lucky girl!) She's also way too modest to pimp herself out so I'm going to do it for her. I'm just going to let the pictures speak for themselves.

Trekking to Kaena Point...

We must be crazy since we've done this hike three times already in the last two weeks. Why do we wake up at 4:30 a.m. to do this hellish 5-mile hike in the exposed sun over a rocky dirt path with one area I've lovingly nicknamed the 'scary part where I could die'?

For this maybe?

Some tips:

1) A hat, frequent and liberal applications of sunscreen, and tons of water are a must. This is a hot hike that probably isn't for anyone who doesn't like the sun or getting tan. If you're a goth or an albino, pass on this one.

2) I like to bring slippers because once you reach the point, there's sand. TONS of it. It's much easier for me to walk around in slippers than in shoes that I constantly have to take off to shake the sand out of.

3) Use the bathroom before you start this hike. There aren't any facilities out there, unless you count rocks and naupaka leaves as toilets and toilet paper.

4) The 'parking lot' at the end of the road is a high theft area so be aware that you may come back to a car with broken windows or even no car at all. I've seen two guys in a truck hanging out there more than once. This last time, one of them was checking out an unlocked Jeep.... Not just looking in but opening doors and checking under seats and stuff.
